6978 Soul Food: Taste the Heart of Chicago's Comfort Cuisine

I had the Greens..mac & cheese .. Dressing.. Red beans & rice ..cornbread and a Margarita... everything was hot fresh &,Tastee ..I wanted a Bloody Mary but they didnt have the ingredients so I went with the Margarita which had a nice kick to it ...they had a dance party going on with music which made the atmosphere vibrant & fun ...OQ

I got the smothered fried chicken with black eyed peas and collard greens. The chicken was really crunchy and flavorful. The gravy made a really nice addition to the chicken, the black eyed peas were also very flavorful, as were the collard greens. Today, I had the catfish with the same sides as last time. I will update afterwards.

Soul food is a specialty and not every one can do it correctly! 6978 Soul Food can do it. The atmosphere in the restaurant is okay it definitely gives outdated bar/banquet hall. But one thing I’ve learned as a foodie is how the place looks shouldn’t always deter you from stopping cause we all know some of the best restaurants are holes in the wall. When we were seated we did a quick check to make sure it was clean and everyone was pleased. Our waitress was extremely sweet and nice. We have a big table with children so we always appreciate waitstaff that are a little understanding. The food was quick to get to the table which was great because we didn’t have to wait long. Even though the food was quick it was fresh and hot. The sides were amazing! The food was good definitely something to feel your stomach when you have a taste for soul food but don’t want to put in the effort.

$18! The food seems to be just worth the price. Well cooked and warm enough to eat. Some seniors were enjoying a party here (around lunch time) and the music was loud but it was okay for me because the music was a VIBE. The serving lady was nice and helpful.

Food was delicious and our server was on it! Groupon has a really good deal on a meal for two, it was definitely worth it. This place also has a room for private parties for all of you getting vaccinated. Now you all can enjoy a southern meal with friends and family. The atmosphere is a bit dark but I attribute that to the dark wood and brick walls. All you need is your own sunshine and your good vibes . We arrived just as they were opening at noon so we had the place to ourselves for a little bit. Take out orders are also available.

6978 Soul Food is amazing. I appreciate the staffs and managers kindness to me even though I have autism and their food is amazing and really good. Owner Tina and Dorothy is very nice. The restaurant is in good condition. Awesome smothered pork chops. Must come back. 10/10.

First off I want to say this was the best chicken hands down. I got the jerk chicken my boyfriend got the fried chicken. Both very good ! I gave 4 stars on the food because it seemed like the mac and cheese and collard greens were room temperature when brought to the table ( both plates) should have been hot, at least if not, warm. . I ordered a bacardi and coke and then the long island. They DID not skip out on any liquor, great drinks ! I gave the atmosphere 4 points because it just seemed like a big squared area with just tables put wherever. They could make it more inviting by adding big vases and some decorations. Maybe some candles on the tables. Just seemed like we were eating in a chow hall of some sorts. I will definitely be coming here again and am going to try the catfish this time. Maybe just a pick up. I was looking for romantic and this wasn't it.

I was craving some soul food so we checked out this spot. Family cozy ambiance. I ordered smothered pork chops, Mac and cheese, yams and banana pudding. It wasn’t bad but could have been better. My chops weren’t completely warmed up but I was so hungry I ate fast. Yams were a bit too sweet and the Mac and cheese needed a bit more flavor. Banana pudding was okay. I will definitely give them another try.
